AFOP releases improved small form factor VOA/Telco Systems announces temperature-hardened demarcation device
MARCH 3, 2010 — Alliance Fiber Optic Products, Inc. (AFOP) has unveiled an improved small form factor pluggable (SFP) variable optical attenuator (VOA) that integrates an electrically controlled VOA into a standard SFP module.
The SFP VOA incorporates the company’s iC|VOA technology, which is designed to offer high optical performance and low cost (see “AFOP’s iClVOA line is customizable”). Convenient electronic attenuation control is achieved using the industry standard I2C interface.
Applications include power equalization in multichannel optically amplified networks, gain tilt, and optical power control in reconfigurable networks.
The device exhibits low excess loss and covers the complete fiber-optic communication wavelength range, AFOP asserts. Customized electronic interfaces and layout are available upon request.
FEBRUARY 24, 2010 — Telco Systems in Mansfield, Mass., announced the expansion of their demarcation product line with T-Marc 254H, a new device designed to deliver converged services for commercial and mobile applications over the metro Ethernet network.
The device is temperature-hardened for outdoor cabinet installation in environments ranging from -40 to 65 degrees Celsius with over-heat protection and sub-zero cold start. It has also been optimized for PBX and wireless backhaul by supporting the seamless transport of TDM frames over Ethernet and clock synchronization via PTP (IEEE1588v2).
“For support of wireless backhaul, Telco Systems’ T-Marc 254 has already proven successful for clients like ATMC,” says Nir Daube, vice president of product management. “We are excited to expand our capabilities with the upgrade to T-Marc 254H, offering a solution for multiple environments while continuing to enable service providers to deploy Ethernet seamlessly.”
The company’s T-Marc demarcation devices are designed to alleviate the operational challenges that providers face when deploying Ethernet. Advanced Layer 2 Networking using Telco Systems’ AccessEthernet allows flexibility in deployment and delivery of Ethernet services. Physical and logical channel networking capabilities provide bandwidth profiles, advanced traffic classes and complete control over how subscriber traffic is transported and managed across a service provider’s network.
T-Marc 254H also enables backhaul providers to offer a hybrid backhaul solution built on a packet-based technology capable of supporting the growing demand for data services while allowing integration of TDM to support legacy mobile voice or PBX services. The T-Marc 254H is MEF 9, MEF 14 and MEF 18 compliant, supporting strong OAM tools, advanced switching capabilities, traffic management, L2VPNs, as well as integration of legacy TDM services. TDM transport options include pseudo wire (PWE3) encapsulation over Ethernet, IP, and MPLS.
To ensure reliable handoff of TDM frames between cell sites, the T-Marc 254H supports multiple timing modes with including Precision Timing Protocol (PTP) IEEE 1588v2 and includes four E1/T1 ports and four 100 Base-T ports and two Gigabit Ethernet SFP-based uplinks.
