Calix touts $100M in broadband stimulus customers with XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative contract
JULY 8, 2010 — Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) says that broadband stimulus award winner XIT Rural Telephone Cooperative has selected the Calix Unified Access portfolio to roll out FTTP fiber and FTTN copper access technologies in underdeveloped parts of its access network. The selection by XIT pushes the total number of Calix broadband stimulus award winner selections to nine, which in aggregate represent over $100 million in stimulus-related grants, loans, and private investment, the equipment provider asserts.Serving subscribers across the northwest Texas panhandle, XIT’s Round One broadband stimulus award consists of a $3.1 million grant and $3.2 million in private funds (see “USDA announces 22 RUS BIP broadband stimulus grants” for more details). XIT’s project plans are focused on its Dalhart and Stratford serving areas, where the cooperative will upgrade and expand its broadband and video infrastructure.XIT plans to use a combination of Calix E5-121 and E5-111 Ethernet Service Access Nodes (ESANs) for VDSL2 and ADSL2+ services, as well as the E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) for Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) aggregation and 10GbE transport applications.Said Darrell Dennis, general manager of XIT, “Folks in our rural corner of Texas look to XIT for their video and broadband connection to the world. The video experience of Calix across its E-Series platforms gives us the confidence that we can deliver superior IPTV services with minimal downtime for our subscribers.”XIT has also submitted an additional application for Round Two broadband stimulus award consideration.
