TEC selects ADTRAN for Bay Springs Telephone FTTN upgrade
JUNE 2, 2010 — ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN) says that TEC, a holding company for several telecom service providers in the Southeast, has selected ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) and Total Access Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN) DSLAMs for its Broadband Stimulus upgrade project at Bay Springs Telephone Co. TEC received an award from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) in the first round of the Broadband Stimulus program to upgrade its transport network and push fiber deeper into the Bay Springs Network for enhanced broadband delivery (see “USDA announces 22 RUS BIP broadband stimulus grants”). ADTRAN says its Total Access 5000 and OSP DSLAMs will enable Bay Springs to deliver both FTTN and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) from the same MSAP, while shortening loop lengths for maximum efficiency via the OSP DSLAMs.ADTRAN says its broadband diagnostic tools will also enable rapid service turn up with minimal impact on service provider personnel. “ADTRAN has played an instrumental role to positively influence the Broadband Stimulus Program. They understand our needs and those of our customer base and we are pleased to team with them to upgrade our network in Bay Springs,” said Brent Fisher, director of network operations, TEC. “ADTRAN is a long-term strategic partner. We currently use a broad portfolio of ADTRAN products, including the Total Access 5000 for the delivery of IPTV, voice, high-speed data, and a full suite of telecommunications services. With this network upgrade, we will be adding 10-Gbps ERPS transport, 10-Gbps network uplinks, and significantly enhancing our access capacity. We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with ADTRAN, while enhancing our capabilities in Bay Springs with the Total Access 5000.”
