Bordesholm grows its muni network with equipment from PBN
Pacific Broadband Networks (PBN) says it has been confirmed as the long-term partner and FTTH-equipment supplier to KNÖV-NetT Bordesholm, a utilities provider in Germany.
KNÖV-NetT currently serves 500 homes within its existing PBN-equipped FTTH network, and plans to install more gear from PBN to expand its network to 1,000 homes by 2014. KNÖV-NetT has selected PBN’s AOCM6000 product family, as well as PBN’s HFC-overlay offering, for the future development of its FTTH network in and around Bordesholm, north of Hamburg, Germany.
At the end of 2010, KNÖV-NetT began to build its fiber-optic network infrastructure, including two headends that serve a significant part of the network. Recently, in order to ensure the perfect balance of capacity and coverage, KNÖV-NetT decided to add strategically-situated outdoor points of presence (PoPs) to its network. PBN was also selected to provide the first outdoor PoP, because the company offers a complete FTTH system that includes both hardware and software.
PBN’s FTTH offering is built around the AOCM6000 carrier-grade switch and routing platform, and customer premises equipment providing Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, all managed using the company’s NMS3 software suite. PBN says its hardware provides the speed and quality that KNÖV-NetT requires, and the NMS3 management and provisioning software is capable of simultaneously managing several networks and headends, and gives KNÖV-NetT the tools it needs to grow its FTTH activities. The NMS3 software suite enables easy operation of KNÖV-NetT’s data, voice, telephony, and CATV-overlay services.
Frank Günther, general manager at KNÖV-NetT Bordesholm, said, “PBN’s operator-friendly FTTH solution gives KNÖV-NetT the ability to focus on serving their customers instead of attending to their network.”
