NTS overcomes network hurdles in broadband stimulus deployment with ADTRAN GPON offering
NTS Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xfone Inc. (AMEX:XFN), has selected ADTRAN Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN), a provider of networking systems, for its Broadband Stimulus Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) buildout–a three-year FTTH project scheduled to reach more than 25,000 subscribers by completion.ADTRAN’s Total Access 5000 GPON product has helped resolve network hurdles that NTS faced in deploying high-definition IPTV and Over-the-Top (OTT) video services.“ADTRAN helped to save our business. Our incumbent’s GPON solution proved to be less than reliable and could not handle the simultaneous demands of HD IPTV, OTT video, and multi-megabit data services,” says Milton Schober, vice president, Data Services, NTS. “When we trialed the Total Access 5000 it worked perfectly, eliminating the reliability issues we had been experiencing and providing the scalability we need to meet the critical demands of this project.“The Total Access 5000 is not only allowing us to meet our current needs for GPON, but it will allow us to grow our services quickly and easily,” Schober adds. “In fact, we have already added mobile backhaul and plans are already in place to add Active Ethernet in the near future.”The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 boasts a multi-terabit backplane, a wide range of access and transport modules, and flexible, enabling service providers to launch new services more easily.“The network is changing at a rapid pace and service providers must not only be able to address the needs of today, but also keep up with the demands of their customers and remain competitive,” recognizes P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “The Total Access 5000 provides a clear migration path, allowing service providers, like NTS, to reinvent their network continually to meet these changing demands.”
